GET ON UP: THE TRIUMPH OF BLACK AMERICA
The wonderful DAVID HAREWOOD has teamed up with the BBC for his new documentary Get On Up: The Triumph of Black America. In this two-part series, David takes us across America to discover some of the true stories behind the incredible artists who shaped his life and the influence of Black culture on the world.
Across his travels, David introduces us to some inspirational icons including singer-songwriter Smokey Robinson, Actors Sidney Poitier and John Amos, and Grammy award-winning record producer Robert Margoulef as well as many, many more. The documentary series is now available to watch with both episodes on BBC iPlayer.

This is not David’s first documentary having released Black is the New Black, Could Britain Ever Have a Black Prime Minister and Why is Covid Killing People of Colour – he also released David Harewood: Psychosis and Me in 2019 and wrote his first book Maybe I Don’t Belong Here: A Memoir of Race, Identity, Breakdown and Recovery which was published in 2021.
As an actor, David is well known for his role of J’onn J’onzz in Supergirl, as well as roles in The Man in the High Castle, Homeland and more recently, Ten Percent where he played himself. A brilliant stage presence, David has also just completed the extended run of William F Buckley’s Best of Enemies at the Noël Coward this year.
As a voice artist, David has a powerful and distinctive voice. He holds numerous vocal credits including Wendell & Wild, The Abominable Snow Baby, The Sandman (podcast series) and various video games such as Horizon Zero Dawn and Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare.
